New Markets for Artists
The New Markets for Artists Workshop offers Lower Cape artists and artisans the opportunity to develop viable marketing strategies, press packages and action plans. Participants will learn a variety of marketing skills and personal development tools for creating a marketing strategy that increases earning potential and provides greater financial stability.
About the Workshop
Each workshop consists of a weekend of intensive exploration and education, followed by five monthly “check-in” sessions for additional support, coaching and networking with your fellow artists. Workshop discussion topics include:
- Addressing Your Creative Blocks – Seeing yourself as your own best advocate, Developing a short and succinct promotional statement.
- Identifying Your Best Customers – Using your creativity, the uniqueness of your work, market trends, and demographics, you will learn to identify your best customers.
- Developing Professional Marketing Materials – Designing packaging, portfolio and press packages that target your best customers.
- Identifying Cost Effective Promotional Opportunities – Finding free sources of marketing, press releases, web links, etc. to
determine where your advertising dollars are best spent.
- Develop Networking Skills – Creating a sense of community that will lead to increased connections and sales.
- Valuing Your Customers – Maintaining a database of customers, exhibits, potential customers, & gallery contacts and creating clever ways to follow-up and stay in touch them.

About the Presenters
Oren Sherman and Rick Miller have presented at The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod’s Making Art and Making A Living Conference and the Lower Cape Cod Community Development Corporation’s Smart/New Markets for Artists since 2003. They use a hands-on, supportive approach to developing the marketing skills that most artists possess. This approach has been enthusiastically received by all past participants.
As a team, Oren and Rick have an appreciation for the difficulties and challenges inherent in marketing ones own artwork, and have the knowledge and skills to help you bring your work to the right market.
