The Lower Cape Cod CDC visited the Statehouse in Boston on March 27th to participate in the Massachusetts Association of CDC’s “Lobby Day.” This annual event gathers CDC members from across the Commonwealth to visit the Statehouse, meet with their legislators and network with their peers. Joined by CDC Board Member Jari Rapaport, staff members Elizabeth Bridgewater, Chris Perry, Emily Loomis and Lisa Panaccione met with Senator Rob O’Leary, Representative Sarah Peake and Representative Cleon Turner. The group discussed the Affordable Housing Bond Bill (passed by the House and Senate and now moving to the Governor’s office), the need to fund the Small Business Technical Assistance Provider Grant Program, the importance of funding for foreclosure prevention counseling and also updated the legislators on the CDC’s education, housing and economic development programs. Governor Deval Patrick addressed the lunchtime crowd, sharing his concern and support for the housing and economic wellbeing of the citizens of the Commonwealth. The Lower Cape Cod CDC supports the Massachusetts Association of CDC’s LIFT Campaign Goals: investment in the production and preservation of affordable housing, investment in the economic vitality of local communities and in community building and stability. This evening was a great success – allowing us to highlight the many faces of economic diversity, present Community Hero Awards, and present the Gwen Pelletier Award to Ted Malone of Community Housing Resource Inc.
