About Us

Promoting a vibrant and diverse community on the Lower Cape

Our History and Background

The Lower Cape Cod Community Development Corporation (CDC) is a community based non-profit organization created in 1992 by community leaders and activists who believed the eight towns of the Lower Cape needed an organization focused on affordable housing and economic development issues unique to the area.

As a community development corporation, we operate for the benefit of and with the participation of local area residents, business owners and leaders. We encourage and invite those from our general membership and others with specialized experience to serve on program committees and the Board of Directors. In addition to our own membership, we often collaborate with other local advocacy groups that provide an added level of representation for their particular town or service base. For example, we have partnered with a local community organization in Harwich – the Harwich Portuguese Men’s Club – to develop affordable rental housing on five acres of a nine-acre site owned by the club.

Since our inception in 1992, the Lower Cape Cod CDC has continued to adapt to the ever-shifting economic and demographic landscape of our area, while maintaining our commitment to improving the local economy, empowering local individuals and organizations, and enhancing the quality and character of the Lower Cape community.

Our Areas of Focus

Economic Development

The Lower Cape Cod CDC is committed to supporting economic development within our community through programs and education that foster the start-up and growth of local businesses, as well as those that tackle the unique business challenges of the fishing and aquaculture industries, home-based businesses, artists and other crafts people on the Lower Cape. Our Economic Development programs address a variety of needs, including small business loans, entrepreneurship education, technology training and support, and innovative marketing strategies.

Affordable Housing

In conjunction with our Economic Development efforts, the Lower Cape Cod CDC recognizes that a diverse and thriving community requires stable housing for people of all income levels. However, increased demand and skyrocketing home rental and purchase prices have resulted in an affordable housing crisis on the Lower Cape. The CDC has actively responded to this crisis with several programs aimed at increasing the number of attractive, quality affordable housing units available for low to moderate income families from Harwich to Provincetown. Through a combination of housing development projects, housing rehabilitation efforts, property management, and educational opportunities for home owners and renters, the CDC is making great strides in providing more people on the Lower Cape with a decent and safe place to live, regardless of their income level.

Who We Serve

At the Lower Cape Cod CDC we are dedicated to our mission of promoting a vibrant and diverse community on the Lower Cape by addressing housing needs and encouraging small business development and job growth. Our innovative programs and talented staff are focused on helping low to moderate income individuals, families and small businesses achieve self-sufficiency and long-term economic stability. Whether your goal is to own a home, sustain affordable homeownership, start or expand a business, or broaden your horizons through a variety of workshops and seminars, we encourage you to take advantage of all the Lower Cape Cod CDC has to offer.
